Ministers approve the marketing or use of a pesticide only if thorough evaluation establishes that it is effective, humane and poses no unacceptable risk to human beings, non-target species or the wider environment.

Note:
Because of differences in valuation principles, the crude trade gap overstates the contribution of food, feed and drink to the deficit on visible trade in the balance of payment statistics by about 15 per cent.
