HL Deb 22 March 1995 vol 562 cc76-7WA
Lord Judd

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they are taking bilaterally and together with the Commonwealth and the European Union to secure the immediate release of General Olusegun Obasanjo from detention by the Nigerian military regime.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey:

We have urged the Nigerian Government to ensure that former President Obasanjo is subject to the due process of law, and is either released or promptly charged. The Commonwealth Secretary General and the European Union have issued statements expressing concern, copies of which have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
