The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the net operating cost per prisoner place for each contracted out prison in England and Wales.The net operating cost per prisoner place for each contracted out prison in England and Wales from 1 April 1994 to 31 March 1995 will be contained in the Prison Service Annual Report, which for that period will be laid before Parliament later this year.
