§ Mr. David NicholsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Education what advice her Department gives to local education authorities regarding the provision of community or adult education facilities financed by local education authorities; and what advice her Department gives to the Department of the Environment regarding the provision of finance for such facilities and courses.
§ Mr. BoswellIt is for individual local education authorities to secure the adequate provision for their areas of certain types of further education for adults, as defined by the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. The Department does not issue any advice to local education authorities on this matter.
The Department keeps the Department of the Environment abreast of spending needs in this area, and discusses with them and the local authority associations the provision of funding to local education authorities.
