The last year for which completed figures are available is 1993, in which there were 6,859 adoptions in England and Wales. Of these, 465 children were aged under one, 1,894 between one and four, 2,543 between five and nine, 1,570 between 10 and 14 and 387 between 15 and 17 years of age.
