§ Mr. McNamaraTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many(a) men and (b) women applied for career breaks in his Department or its agencies; arid how many have had their employment terminated in the last five years.
§ Mr. FreemanSince 1 March 1990, 13 men and 788 women in my Department have applied for and been granted a career break. Of the men, six are still on their break, five have been reinstated and two terminated after the career break. Of the women, 603 are still on their break, 147 have been reinstated and 38 terminated after the career break.
