HL Deb 29 June 1995 vol 565 cc60-1WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Answer by Lord Inglewood of 12th June (HL Deb., WA 101) on the costing of the proposals of the Report of the House of Commons Select Committee on Mothers in Employment, whether the answer to the original question is "yes" or "no" and whether they will reconsider their costings in the light of the report from the Institute of Fiscal Studies and the Equal Opportunities Commission, published since Lord Inglewood's answer.

Lord Inglewood

I have nothing to add to the Answer I have already given. The Institute of Fiscal Studies' (IFS) report confirms the Government's view that widespread tax relief for childcare would be expensive and poorly targeted.
