To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his answer of 18 April,Official Report, columns 92–94, if he will give a regional breakdown of the numbers of prisoners transferred to hospitals under sections 47 and 48 of the Mental Health Act 1983 in each of the last 10 years. Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Paul Flynn, dated 29 June 1995: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking for a regional breakdown of the numbers of prisoners transferred to hospitals under sections 47 and 48 of the Mental Health Act 1983 in each of the last 10 years. The information requested is not recorded centrally and could be obtained only by disproportionate cost.
