HC Deb 26 June 1995 vol 262 cc534-5W
Mr. Spellar

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the Government's policy in respect of substituting recycled aggregate for newly quarried material. [30431]

Sir Paul Beresford

The Government's policy on the use of secondary and recycled materials in place of primary aggregates is set out in minerals planning guidance note 6—MPG6— on aggregates provision in England. This explains that recycling is a key policy in pursuance of sustainable development, and sets targets—40 million tonnes per year by 2001 and 55 million tonnes per year by 2006—for the increased use of recycled material in the construction industry.
