varies widely, it is not possible to give precise figures for the proportion of our multilateral aid which is specifically for poverty reduction. However, of the UK's total contribution to multilateral agencies, we estimate that in 1993 more than 60 per cent. was spent in the poorest category of countries—that is, least developed countries as classified by the UN and in other low income countries with an income per head of under $676 in 1992.
