HC Deb 22 June 1995 vol 262 c351W
Mr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what studies he has commissioned or evaluated in respect of possible regulation of private rents. [29604]

Mr. Curry

None.

Mr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate his Department has of the average current market rent for(a) a bedsit, (b) a studio flat, (c) a two bedroom flat and (d) a four bedroom home in (i) the country as a whole and (ii) each region. [29605]

Mr. Curry

The most recent available information on estimated average market rents in England for 1993–94, is as follows:

£ a week
Bedsit 40
Studio flat 67
Two bedroom flat 88

The estimates are from the survey of English housing 1993–94. Like all estimates from household surveys they are subject to sampling error. The sample is not large enough to provide a regional breakdown and the sample of four bedroom properties with market rents is too small to provide a reliable estimate for England.

Mr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the bodies that have sent representations to him asking for private rent levels to be regulated. [29603]

Mr. Curry

None.
