HL Deb 22 June 1995 vol 565 c27WA
Lord Braine of Wheatley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many women who have suffered domestic violence inflicted by a husband or partner are currently in prison for murder and how many are awaiting appeals against sentence.

Baroness Blatch

On 16 June 1995 a total of 107 women were serving life sentences for murder. The sentences of four of these women relate to domestic violence, of whom three are awaiting an appeal. It is not known whether the remaining 103 women sentenced for murder have suffered domestic violence.
