§ Ms JowellTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what were the estimates of capital expenditure required for backlog maintenance for each region for each year since 1991; and what was the value of the actual backlog maintenance programme for each year since 1991 in each region. [29533]
§ Mr. SackvilleThe available information is shown in the table.
Both capital and revenue expenditure may be used to meet backlog maintenance costs. Expenditure figures for this purpose are not separately identified.
The figures in the table indicate the estimated cost at the end of each financial year for clearing repairs and bringing the estate up to a satisfactory condition. From 1991–92 they include an additional element for meeting statutory and safety standards arising from the removal of Crown immunity to the national health service.
