HC Deb 21 June 1995 vol 262 c315W
Ms Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the current cost of a fatal accident used by his Department's Highways Agency in its cost-benefit analysis used for justifying new highway schemes; and how many fatalities involving HGVs there were in 1991–92, 1992–93, and 1993–94. [27874]

Mr. Watts

The latest estimate of the cost of a fatal accident is £913,140—in 1994 prices and values.

The number of fatalities in accidents involving heavy goods vehicles were:

  • 1991–92: 759 (of which 359 were on trunk roads)
  • 1992–93: 730 (of which 292 were on trunk roads)
  • 1993–94: 677 (of which 307 were on trunk roads)
