Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the findings of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise will be presented to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury following its investigation into breaches of export control by BMARC. [29352]

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

[holding answer 19 June 1995]: No.

Mr. Cousins

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will set out the terms of the reference and subject matter of the HM Customs and Excise inquiry into BMARC. [29484]

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Customs and Excise is an independent prosecuting authority of the Crown and conducts investigations to determine whether there is a basis for instituting criminal proceedings in relation to alleged breaches of, inter alia, statutory export and import controls.

In that capacity, it is for the commissioners to determine the subject matter and extent of any investigation and, in relation to the BMARC allegations, the Department is actively following up information received.
