HC Deb 19 June 1995 vol 262 c18W
Mr. Jim Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his Department's assessment of the implications for the future stability of the non-proliferation regime of agreement to the extension decision of the non-proliferation treaty by majority vote rather than by consensus.

Mr. David Davis

On 11 May the states parties to the non-proliferation treaty participating in the NPT review and extension conference decided without a vote to extend the treaty indefinitely. This decision will send the strongest possible signal of the international community's determination to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
