To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the businesses in which the Northern Ireland tourist board has taken the preference share options and indicate(a) the amount of each investment, (b) which of these businesses have received within the past three years development grants from schemes directly administered by the hoard from European Union funds, (c) the amount of grant awarded in total and expressed as percentage of the approved cost of each development, (d) the number of additional jobs created in each of the businesses which benefited from the preference share option scheme or the development grants; and what monitoring he has carried out to ensure that these businesses have not received any more preferential support or advice in the marketing and promotion of their activities from the Northern Ireland tourist board, either directly or indirectly, to that which is available to other hotels in Northern Ireland. The businesses in which the Northern Ireland tourist board has taken preference share options are:

  1. 1. Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Bangor: £250,000
  2. 2. Radisson Roe Park Hotel, Limavady: £550,000
  3. 3. Manor House Hotel, Killadeas: £330,000

Of these businesses, the following accepted offers of assistance under European Union funds:

  • Radisson Roe Park Hotel, Limavady: £1,250,000
  • Manor House Hotel, Killadeas: £200,000

The amount of grant awarded in total from NITB and EU sources and expressed as a percentage of approved costs is as follows: Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Bangor: £450,000, representing 30 per cent. of approved costs and 13.5 per cent. of approved costs on redemption of the preference shares, ignoring any redemption premium. Radisson Roe Park Hotel, Limavady: £3,450,000, representing 41 per cent. of approved costs and 34.7 per cent. of approved costs on redemption of the preference shares, ignoring any redemption premium. Manor House Hotel, Killadeas: £630,000, representing 34 per cent. of approved costs and 16 per cent. of approved costs on redemption of the preference shares, ignoring any redemption premium.

The number of jobs created in each of the businesses is as follows:

Applications for support for marketing and promotional activities are considered by NITB on an individual basis and on ability to meet the established published criteria. Companies which have not been financially assisted through the NITB are equally able to apply for support or advice on marketing or promotional activities.
