HC Deb 19 June 1995 vol 262 c45W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people were subject to a guardianship order under the Mental Health Act 1983 for each of the past 12 years. [29556]

Mr. Bowis

The centrally available information on the number of orders at the end of each financial year and the number of cases opened and closed during the year, was published in "Guardianship under the Mental Health Act (1983) Year Ending 31 March 1994, England", copies of which are available in the Library.

Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the latest figures by region for the number of doctors approved under section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 currently working within the NHS per head of population; and what proportion of these are registered psychiatrists. [29558]

Mr. Bowis

Regional directors of public health are responsible for ensuring that sufficient suitably trained and experienced doctors are approved under the Act and we are satisfied 'that this requirement is being properly met.
