Mrs. Anne Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations he has made to the Japanese authorities concerning a Japanese apology for events during the second world war. [29068]

Mr. Byers

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what steps he is taking to secure a full apology from the Japanese Government for the conduct of its troops towards British prisoners of war during world war II. [29257]

Mr. Goodlad

When my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister visited Japan in September 1993, the Prime Minister of Japan expressed his deep remorse as well as apologies for the fact that Japan's past actions had inflicted deep wounds on many people including former prisoners of war.
