To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all current alleged medical negligence cases against the NHS by(a) type of allegation and (b) length of time waiting for settlement. [23303]

[holding answer 16 May 1995]: The number of medical negligence cases against the NHS currently totals 1,195. Information on the type of allegation is not collected centrally.

The length of time since the currently outstanding cases were lodged is as follows:
