HC Deb 13 June 1995 vol 261 c487W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the number of households currently living in accommodation shared with another household, who require rehousing. [27962]

Mr. Robert B. Jones

The 1993–94 an estimated 400,000 households lived in accommodation that was not self-contained. Of these, 200,000 had a strong preference for separate accommodation, 140 would prefer it but not strongly, and 60,000 preferred to share.

The estimates are from the survey of English housing 1993–94 and, like all estimates from household surveys, they are subject to sampling error.
