To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will provide the project timetable for the introduction of automated first registration and licensing and the estimated cost of the project; and by whom the cost will be met. [27866]

A firm timetable for the automated first registration and licensing project is not yet available.

The cost of the project is to be met jointly by the DVLA and the motor industry. The DVLA's costs are a matter for negotiation with its computer contractor, EDS Ltd., and are subject to commercial confidentiality.
