HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 c144W
Mr. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what improvements are being proposed, planned or are at present being made to the radioactive waste management area of the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Aldermaston, aside from the construction of A91; what the estimated costs of these improvements will be; and when he expects any work will be completed. [26350]

Mr. Freeman

There is a continuing programme of improvements to facilities at the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston. This includes those in the so-called radioactive waste management area, although waste management as an activity is conducted at various parts of the site. It has been the practice of successive Governments not to disclose the cost of constituent elements of the nuclear warhead programme, although construction of building A91 is the largest single capital cost associated with waste management at AWE.
