§ Mr. NorrisIndividual written requests for personal details of vehicle keepers from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's vehicle record are vetted prior to processing. One and a half million were received during the last 12 months. Two per cent. were rejected.
Five million requests from the police, local authorities and other approved organisations using a bulk inquiry facility were processed during the same period. These organisations, with the exception of the police, are bound 40W by agreements with DVLA to provide facilities to enable the agency to check that only bona fide requests are made.
A list of organisations submitting written inquiries is not available. Arrangements have been made for a complete list of bulk inquiries to be lodged in the Library of the House.
