HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 c32W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance is issued to dentists in the handling and use of mercury amalgam; and if this guidance has changed since 1979. [26674]

Mr. Malone

Guidance on the handling and use of dental amalgam is primarily a professional matter for dentists. Guidance on the handling and use of mercury has been given by the British Dental Association in 1989, taking account of guidance note EH 17 "Mercury and Safety Precautions", 1977, and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988. The COSSH document is available in the Library, and copies of guidance note EH 17 will be placed in the Library.
