To ask the Secretary of State for Education (1) what is the current administration and overhead costs required to manage unemployment benefits including the current number of civil servants and job centres; and what was the figure in each year since 1980 at 1994 prices; [36304]

(2) what is the latest total and average figure of the cost of spending on the jobless; and what were the figures in 1978–79 at constant prices. [36303]
