To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what are the latest figures indicating the number of social security claimants who are in employment and the weekly average level of benefit paid to this category; [36301]

(2) what are the latest figures for the number of social security claimants who are unemployed and the weekly average benefit paid to this category. [36302]

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what are the latest figures for the number of means-tested benefit claimants, broken down into those in receipt of income support, family credit, housing benefit and council tax benefit; and what have been the average weekly payment levels made to claimants in each category; and what were the figures for each year from 1990 to 1994. [36297]

The information is in the table. Figures relate to benefit units.

Column 1 provides the total number of benefits units in receipt of one or more means-tested benefit after overlaps have been taken into account. The remaining columns show the number of benefit units who receive each individual benefit and give the average amount of that benefit in payment.
