HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 cc1289-90W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what is his Department's estimate of the number of doctors and nurses currently classified as managers or senior managers within the NHS. [35587]

Mr. Malone

Detailed information is not collected centrally. However we estimate that about two thirds of the increase in general and senior management numbers between 1991 and 1992 and almost half the increase between 1992 and 1993 may be due to the reclassification of staff from professional and administrative groups as managers.
