To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will give for each of the statistical regions of England the share of all inward investment projects coming to the United Kingdom in each of the last 10 years as measured by(a) numbers of projects and (b) numbers of jobs to be created. [35170]

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the number of new and safeguarded jobs brought by inward investors into each of the standard regions of the United Kingdom and for the United Kingdom as a whole for each year since 1992–93; and if he will indicate the percentage of the United Kingdom total for each standard region, and the average increase or decrease in proportional terms of this percentage during the last year. The unsually high number of safeguarded jobs for the west midlands in 1993–94 includes those arising from BMW/Rover.

The figures are based on the number of projects notified to the Invest in Britain Bureau at the time of the decision to invest. Companies are under no obligation to notify their investment decisions and the figures take not account of subsequent developments.
