Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses in Scotland were affected by(a) dampness and (b) condensation in the last year for which figures are available. [35220]

Local authorities estimated that the number of public sector houses affected by(a) dampness total 55,554 and (b) condensation total 142,684 as at 31 March 1994.

Information for Scottish Homes and the new town is not held centrally.

The latest available information on the number of houses in Scotland below the tolerable standard is published in the statistical bulletin HSG/1994/8 "Dwellings below the Tolerable Standard (BTS) in Scotland: Estimates by Local Authorities for March 1994 and Details of Action on such Dwellings". This bulletin is available in the Library.
