§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has been given of changes in policy, of advertising, presenting and sale of bull bars and bull bar substitutes since he urged the industry to reduce its advertising of metal bull bars. [35873]
§ Mr. NorrisMy predecessor wrote in April 1993 to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders urging it not to fit bull bars as standard and to avoid marketing of them.
Although no official reply was received, we understand that some motor manufacturers are no longer, as a matter of general practice, advertising the availability of bull bars on their vehicles. There has also been a move towards the production of bull bars which would be significantly less aggressive if the vehicle were involved in an accident.
