HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 c1473W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make an estimate of the impact on the consumption of bananas in the United Kingdom of abolishing all impediments to trade in the banana industry; and if he will make a statement. [34996]

Mr. Baldry

Consumption of bananas in the United Kingdom has almost doubled in the last 10 years and retail prices are now at historically low levels in real terms. Since the single market for bananas came into force two years ago, consumers have been offered a wider choice than ever before.
