HC Deb 18 July 1995 vol 263 cc1160-1W
Mr. David Shaw

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the work his Department has carried out in the past 12 months in making information about his Department available to the public via the Government world wide web server known as www.open.gov.uk and his plans and policies to make additional and new information available electronically on the server in the next 12 months. [34673]

Mr. Soames

In the past 12 months, a MOD world wide web—(WWW)—server has been set up at the Internet address www.mod.uk with the specific aim of disseminating information about the Department. Liaison with the CCTA has ensured that the MOD home page on the server is accessible via the Government service WWW server at www.open.gov.uk.

Information made available to date has included summary biographies and pictures of MOD Ministers, recruitment information for the individual services and MOD press releases. In addition, the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency has a number of WWW pages accessible from the MOD home page which publicises topical items from the defence research programme.

It is planned in the next 12 months to increase the number of MOD WWW pages to make further information available to the public, one example being the coverage of major defence policy speeches.
