§ Mr. DenhamTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his answer of 4 July,Official Report, column 159, if he will place in the Library (a) the extract of the British Geological Survey ground hazard assessment for Hampshire and (b) his Department's maps and database on susceptibility to subsidence for Hampshire. [35509]
§ Sir Paul BeresfordThe British Geological Survey's ground hazard assessment programme is a commercially operated service, access to which can be obtained through the survey at Keyworth, Nottingham.
My Department's maps of landslides, mining instability and natural underground cavities in Hampshire, together with the relevant databases and the map of shrinkable clay in Hampshire will be placed in the Library when they are available.
These maps show only the information that was available to the consultants who carried out the research projects for my Department. Their interpretation to determine susceptibility to subsidence requires earth science expertise and the absence of ornamentation on any part of the map does not necessarily imply that the ground is not susceptible to subsidence.
