HC Deb 18 July 1995 vol 263 c1203W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the slaughtering capacity that currently exists in Wales conforms to EU required standards; and what proportion of the animals that are currently slaughtered in Wales can be slaughtered in slaughterhouses that conform to EU standards. [35627]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The proportion of the slaughtering capacity that currently exists in Wales that is licensed for trade with European Union member states, is approximately 75 per cent. It would be possible for those abattoirs to accommodate the current levels of throughput at other Welsh slaughterhouses, on an annual basis.
