To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the information and reports received by his Department concerning the shipment of goods from Royal Ordnance to Iran between 1984 and 1988. [35337]

Such information, if it existed and if it pointed to potentially illegal activity, would have been passed to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise as the enforcement authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when his Department received reports from Swedish customs of the outcome of their investigation into shipments to Iran which mentioned Royal Ordnance; and what action it took. [35336]

Mr. Arbuthnot

No arrangements exist for the provision of information by overseas customs authorities to the Ministry of Defence. Any such information would be provided to HM Customs and Excise.
