To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many(a) health visitors, (b) district nurses, (c) community psychiatric nurses and (d) school nurses were employed in each region of England on 30 September 1993, and for the latest date available, expressed as whole-time equivalents and actual numbers; and if he will list the same information for student health visitors and student district nurses. [holding answer 17 July 1995]: The information relating to the number and whole-time equivalent number of health visitors, district nurses, community psychiatric nurses and school nurses employed in each region of England on 30 September 1993 is shown in the tables. This is the latest available information.

For the number of student health visitors and district nurses in each region in 1993, I refer the right hon. Member to the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting annual report for 1993–94, copies of which are available in the Library.
