HC Deb 14 July 1995 vol 263 c845W
Mr. Ian McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many unfair dismissal cases were brought against his Department during the last 12 months; how many were successful; and what were the total costs including legal fees and compensation. [34614]

Mr. Burt

In the year ending 30 June 1995 there were 58 applications to industrial tribunals for unfair dismissal brought against the Department. Three of these were unsuccessful, six were withdrawn, two were settled before a hearing and 47 are waiting to be heard. Information on legal costs is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
