To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many days were lost in sickness in the last 12 months by employees in his Department(a) in total and (b) as a proportion of the number of days worked; and what was the cost of this absence. [34594]

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office does not at present have a comprehensive computerised system for recording sick leave. The diplomatic wing compiles this information manually and no statistical analysis is available. Work on computerising these records has begun. Once this project has been completed later this year, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will be able to answer this type of question.

Therefore the information requested by the hon. Member can be provided only at disproportionate cost.
