§ Mr. SweeneyTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what arrangements he is making for valuation tribunals in Wales following the reorganisation of local government on 1 April 1996. [34837]
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesMy right hon. Friend and I have carefully considered the responses to the recent consultation. We have concluded that, from 1 April 1996, there should be four tribunals covering north, west, south and east Wales. They will be served by the existing offices at Colwyn bay, Carmarthen, Cardiff and Newport. Appointments to the tribunals will be made by the new unitary authorities to take effect on 1 April 1996. Regulations will be made in the autumn giving effect to these changes and making some other amendments to the arrangements for the appointment of tribunal members and the administration of tribunals. I am writing to all Welsh Members setting out the changes more fully. I shall place a copy of my letter in the Library of the House.
