HL Deb 11 July 1995 vol 565 cc104-5WA
Lord Alport

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the interests of road safety and after consultation with motor organisations, they will make it compulsory for all motor vehicles to have lighted side and rear lights when travelling on the public highway.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Viscount Goschen)

Front, rear and side marker lamps are required to be kept lit between sunset and sunrise or in conditions of seriously reduced visibility. There are no plans to require them to be lit at other times.
