Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the fines and penalties imposed on prison inmates for being in possession of drugs at each prison in England and Wales during the months of March, April and May. [32673]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 10 July 1995:

The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the fines and penalties imposed on prison inmates for being in possession of drugs during the months of March, April and May.Provisional figures for the number of offences and the number of punishments awarded for possession of a controlled drug are shown in the attached table, a copy of which will be placed in the Library of the House, for each Prison Service establishment where it was proved that an offence was committed.
