§ Mr. NelsonHM Government have no plans to ask the Bank of England to review its controls in relation to Central Gilts Office accounts. Placing the Bank under the duty of inquiring about the propriety of stock transactions would reduce the speed and efficiency of the settlement service and would therefore add to the costs of government funding. I remain of the view that the measures taken in the Pensions Bill provide effective safeguards for the security of scheme assets.
