To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his assessment of the prospects of concluding a comprehensive test ban treaty for nuclear weapons. [30576]

Mr. Freeman

It should be possible to conclude negotiations on a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty by the end of 1996. Her Majesty's Government will continue to work actively for that end.
