§ Mr. RobathanTo ask the Chairman of the Accommodation and Works Committee what is his policy on the use of combined heat and power in the House of Commons.
§ Mr. Ray PowellWherever appropriate, the opportunity is always taken to incorporate energy efficiency measures into new works and maintenance projects on the parliamentary estate. A combined heat and power plant will be installed in the Norman Shaw buildings later this year at a cost of some £90,000. Projected annual savings worth £18,500 will give a payback period of less than five years. Studies are under way with a view to undertaking a similar scheme in the Palace of Westminster in 1997–98.
