HC Deb 20 January 1995 vol 252 cc722-3W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what calculations she has made of the changes in levels of funding for the youth service in England since 1989; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Boswell

It is for local authorities to decide how much of their budget they dedicate to expenditure on the youth service.

Local education authorities' net recurrent expenditure on the youth service, as recorded in returns to the Department of Environment, between 1989–90 and 1992–93, the latest year for which figures are available, was as follows:

Year Net recurrent expenditure (actual) £ million
1989–90 235.3
1990–91 241.7
1991–92 251.7
1992–93 273.9
