HC Deb 20 January 1995 vol 252 cc717-8W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the number of people in Wales who are currently under 18 years of age but who are not in (a) full-time education, (b) on a training programme or (c) in full-time work.

Mr. Redwood

The latest estimate available is based on the labour force survey conducted last summer. It indicates that, at that time, approximately 10,000, subject to confidence limits of plus or minus 4,000, 16 and 17year-olds were neither in full-time education, nor on a training programme nor in full-time work. We can only honour our guarantee of a training place for those not in work where the young person asks for such a place.
