HC Deb 19 January 1995 vol 252 c659W
Mr. Denham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received suggesting that planning legislation should be amended to enable local authorities to require planning permission for houses in multiple occupation shared by six or fewer adults not of the same family; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Paul Beresford

Few representations have been made for greater planning controls in this area. The present arrangements reflect that, in land use terms, the amenity of a neighbourhood is not much altered whether a house is occupied by a large family or by six unrelated adults living as a single household.
