HC Deb 18 January 1995 vol 252 c504W
33. Mrs. Lait

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the effect on consumer choice and price competition of encouraging new retail development in the centre of our towns and cities.

Mr. Gummer

Locating new retail developments in or on the edge of town centres ensures that they are accessible to the largest number of people. This enables comparison shopping to be made, thereby increasing choice for all consumers and price competition.
