HC Deb 18 January 1995 vol 252 c510W
Mr. Denham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the impact of the demand of student rented housing on the availability of private rented housing for non-students.

Mr. Robert B. Jones

None. The composition of the private rented sector in any locality will be subject to the supply of property available and demand for it. As students comprise only 5 per cent. of households in privately rented accommodation, we have no reason to believe that demand for student housing is likely to make it more difficult for non-students to find accommodation except, perhaps, in a limited number of localities.
